Peter A. Eckstein

For years, IEEE-USA has been vocal in highlighting abuses in the H-1B visa program to the U.S. Congress. These abuses create unfairness for temporary non-immigrant workers and American workers.

What has happened to American engineering jobs?  Many of us have heard of the H-1B visa, and the controversy surrounding it.  But, what is it, how does it work, and how does it impact our employment?  This talk will demystify the visa process and explain how its abuse is affecting the engineering community.

Biography:

Peter Eckstein is retired from Northrop Grumman Corp., with extensive experience in the design and development of sophisticated electronic and electromechanical systems.  At Northrop Grumman Corp., he held various engineering managerial positions of increasing responsibility involving U.S. Navy electronic warfare system avionics.

Eckstein is an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Suffolk County Community College, where he teaches calculus and algebra based physics courses; at Queensborough Community College, where he teaches physics and astronomy; and at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, where he teaches physics and engineering.

Peter A. Eckstein received the B.S. degree in Electrical Technology from the New York Institute of Technology. He received an M.S. in Applied Physics and an M.S. in Management Engineering from Adelphi University.

An IEEE Senior Member, Peter Eckstein has been active in various volunteer roles at the section, region, society and IEEE Board-levels. He served as 2016 President IEEE-USA and as Region 1 Director (2012-2013).
