IEEE Houston Consultants Network will have a general meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 on Thursday March 22nd at the Clayton Library Center at 5300 Caroline St., Houston, TX  77004.  After an inital networking session with snacks provided, Steven Umbach will provide a presentation on "WHAT THE HECK IS INDUSTRIAL DESIGN ANYWAY?"

What the Heck is Industrial Design Anyway?

After providing industrial design services for over 30 years, the profession remains an enigma for many people. During this casual presentation, Mr. Umbach will provide a fast and fun overview of the profession of industrial design, take you on a quick tour of some of his more interesting project experiences, and entertain questions from the audience to help them gain a better understanding of industrial design and how it can be of great benefit to most development projects and companies..

Biography:

 

Umbach Consulting Group was founded in 2001 by Steven Umbach. Since then, the Umbach Consulting Group has had the honor to work with clients such as, Dell, Bose Corp, Schlumberger, HP Printing & Imaging, Socrates Health Solutions, Cooper Consulting Service, UT Medical Branch Galveston/Noninvasix, Cardionics/Mayo Clinic, IP Datatel, Jostra Medical/NovoSci, MicroMed DeBakey, Innovation Focus, Forte Product Solutions, Digital Air Control, Virtuix Omni, Zupt, Consumer Solutions, NeoTech Products, and GoPro among many others on small NPD programs to long-term, corporate design management programs.

Steven holds a Master of Science in Management degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a BFA/Industrial Design degree from The Rhode Island School of Design College of Architecture.  He has also served as a part-time faculty with the University of Houston system where he taught design management, human factors, and user-centered design classes and has held multiple Chapter-level positions as well as served on the Board of Directors for the Industrial Designer’s Society of America (IDSA).
