Exciting One Day STEM Volunteer Opportunity
We are excited to announce that we have again been accepted as an exhibitor with the Iowa Governor's STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Council outreach project at the Iowa State Fair on "Stem Day" August 19, 2018.
What is it?
The Iowa Governor's STEM Council is sponsoring an area on the Grand Concourse of the Iowa State Fair where various groups will each have a table with hands-on demonstrations and activities for elementary age children to explore STEM related topics. We will use "Squishy Circuits" at our table to explore basic electricity and electronics concepts. We've used the "Squishy Circuit" activities the past several years at many local elementary schools as well as at the State Fair the last 3 years and it was highly successful and a lot of fun. "Squishy Circuits" uses home-made play dough that conducts electricity to light LEDs. See http://squishycircuitsstore.com/kits.html for more information.
We will have a table with the Squishy Circuit conductive play dough, circuit boards with batteries and LEDs and sample circuit ideas. We will also have recipe cards available. Please plan to spend 2 hours at our table.
