Recent advances in the fields of power electronics and energy storage have enabled significant reductions in the costs of AC electric railways. The optimization is achieved through better management of power quality and improved utilization of the electric supply infrastructure, delivered by new technologies and new uses of existing technologies.
This presentation provides an overview of the state-of-the-art technologies available and their suitability for integration into the AC traction power network.
A number of case studies, comparing the potential technical and commercial benefits of various technologies and topologies for Aurizon’s heavy-haul 50 kV Auto Transformer traction network, are also included.
