“Meet and Learn” - Technical Society Reporting Out Session – Doble/IEEE/SD Software
The IEEE Vancouver Section Industry Applications Society Chapter and BC Hydro are pleased to co-sponsor this technical society reporting out event. The purpose of this event is to share and transfer knowledge gained from attending technical society meetings, conferences, technical training, etc. with others in the profession. The presentations to be made at this event are from individuals who attended the 2018 IEEE PES General Meeting, and the 2018 Doble Conference, plus a demonstration of the capabilities of a Substation Design software package will be given. The other two presenters will provide a summary of the topics presented at the events they attended, plus cover any highlights, share any new information learned and discuss issues that are currently of high interest to BC Hydro as well as the rest of the power industry. Each presentation will be 30 minutes long.
Please come and meet with colleagues on topics relevant to the power industry. Food and refreshments will be provided. Registration is encouraged and the event is free-of-charge.

4:30 - 5:00 pm: “Highlights of the 2018 IEEE PES General Meeting” presented by Felix Wang
Felix Wang is an Engineer with BC Hydro’s Electrical Group of Transmission Line Design and he has been with BC Hydro since 2017, where he undertakes electrical design and studies associated with BC Hydro transmission lines. Prior to this position he was a Researh Intern in BC Hydro’s Performance Planning, Transmission & Station Planning, and a Coop Student in BC Hydro’s Power System Modeling and Analysis Group. He is presently the IEEE PES Chapter E-Communications/Website Chair. He graduated from UBC with a Master Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2015. Felix is regristered as an EIT with Engineers and Geosciencists BC.
Felix will highlight topics of interest presented at the 2018 IEEE PES General Meeting that are currently of interest to BC Hydro as well as the rest of the power industry.
5:00 - 5:30 pm: “Highlights of the 2018 Doble Conference” presented by Addie Gao
Addie Gao is a Senior Engineer working in BC Hydro’s Station Equipment and Maintenance Engineering Division. She is working on the transformer bushing replacement and transformer replacement; as well as Metering Instrument Transformers projects. She has undertaken transformer development, technical studies and national standard development for the largest transformer manufacturer in China, the Transformer Research Institute and the National Transformer Quality Inspection and Supervising Test Center. In addition, she has provided transformer engineering services for ABB in Canada before coming to BC Hydro.
Addie is a registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. She is also an IEEE PES transformer committee member.
5:30 - 6:30 pm: “Demonstration of the capabilities of a Substation Design software package” presented by Will Fajber
Will Fajber is a Principal Engineer for Stations at BC Hydro with 27 years of experience in the Transmission Stations Design and Field Operations. He is knowledgeable about all aspects of station design. Will has a longstanding interest in digital design tools and efficient use of CAD applications. He is a member of the IEEE and is registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geosciencists BC..
Mr.Fajber will provide a demonstration of the capabilities of a Substation Design software package, which is based around the application of Autodesk products, particularly Inventor and AutoCad Electrical for Substation Design, which is a topic of high interest to BC Hydro as well as the rest of the power industry.
