The site, wherever it is located, is at the intersection of several flow systems that occupy different levels above and below the surface. These levels are upper tier (air flow), middle tier (landscape) and lower tier (soil, bedrock, groundwater). The inclusion of the 3rd dimension (depth, height) is of an important concern for all of these levels. For example, 3D is found of great value in many applications such as planning and landscaping, roads, canals, dams, building construction and simulation of air and water pollution. This presentation addresses the techniques that are used for 3D geospatial data collection and how to add value to 3D maps.

Dr. Mohammed Yagoub Dr. Mohammed Yagoub of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU)

Biography:

Currently, Dr. Yagoub is an Associate Professor of Remote Sensing and GIS at the Department of Geography, UAE University. He was Chair of Graduate Studies at the Department of Geography (20016-2018), Chair of the Department between 2005 and 2007, and Director of the Master Program of Remote Sensing and GIS at the UAE University between 2002 and 2005.

Dr. Yagoub researches focus on applying GIS and Remote Sensing technologies to serve the community using conceptual and empirical approaches. He addresses various topics at the interface between physical and human environment such as talking maps (interaction with maps via voice), parks, prediction of land use and land cover, population estimation from remote sensing, and GIS for wind energy, health, shopping malls and disaster management. Remote sensing and GIS education and availability of free data are also areas that attracted Dr. Yagoub. He secured many research grants related to application of GIS and remote sensing. He published around 20 papers in peer reviewed journals and presented his work in 30 international conferences such as in Nagoya (Japan), London (UK), Paris (France), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Salzburg (Austria), Madrid (Spain), San Diego, California, (USA), Kuwait, Toronto (Canada), Berlin (Germany), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Dubai, and Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Dr. Yagoub teaches various courses related to Geoinformatics such Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Computer Maps. He supervised nine master students in Remote Sensing and GIS Master program during the period 2007-2014. He is a referee to many organizations/journals such as Emirates Foundation, Journal of Applied Geography, the International Journal of Tropical Biology and Conservation and the Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing. He participated in organization of national and international conferences and co-chaired the 5th International Conference on Earth Observation for Global Changes (EOGC) (http://conferences.uaeu.ac.ae/eogc-git4ndm/en/). He achieved the Teaching Faculty Recognition Award on August 28, 2007 bestowed by H.H. Sheik Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. His scholarship is indexed in Scopus, Google Scholar, the American Society of Civil Engineers and Research Gate.
