We are pleased to host Dr. Gerardo Escobar Valderrama and Dr. Jonathan C. Mayo-Maldonado, from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Monterrey, Mexico. They will talk about the current research projects in the field of Power Electronics at Tec de Monterrey University. Biography:

Jonathan C. Mayo-Maldonado received the B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from Instituto Tecnologico de Ciudad Madero, Mexico, in 2008 and 2010 respectively. He received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK, in 2015. He was awarded with the Doctoral Control & Automation  Dissertation Prize 2015 by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), for his thesis entitled Switched Linear Differential Systems supervised by Dr. Paolo Rapisarda. He is currently an Associate Professor at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, Mexico. He is member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (level 1) in Mexico. His research interests include system and control theory, power electronics and smart grid technologies.

Biography:

Dr. Escobar received his PhD from the Signals and Systems Lab. LSS-SUPELEC, Université de Paris XI, France. From 2008 to 2012 he was a Principal Scientist in the Power Electronics Group at ABB Switzerland Ltd. He is currently a Full Professor-Researcher in the School of Engineering and Sciences at the Technological Institute of Monterrey ITESM, Monterrey, Mexico. He is Senior Member of the IEEE since 2008. He is member of the National Research Fellows System level 3 (SNI-3) of the National Council of Science and Technology CONACyT, Mexico. He served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics from 2007 to 2016. He is currently Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans. on Power Electronics since 2013. He is the author of more than 46 journal papers, 104 conference papers, 4 chapters in books, 19 granted patents, H-index of 25 with about 2000 references to his works.
Areas of research: Nonlinear control design, passivity based control, modeling and control of switching power converters, power quality, active filters, inverters, electrical drives and applications of power electronics to renewable energy systems, such as wind power, photovoltaic systems, and energy storage systems, among others.
