IEEE Denver Section PES.IAS Chapter January 2019 Meeting
Power System Protection
This presentation provides an introductory overview on power system protection. The focus is on the various circumstances where the power system must be protected and how this is generally accomplished. An overview of the elements which make up a protected system is also provided. A final discussion is centered on the importance of ensuring the reliability of protection schemes and methods use to accomplish this.

Michael Janiga, P.Eng. of Doble
Biography:
Michael Janiga, P.Eng. has been involved in the protection and control industry for over 13 years. He began his career as a relay technician at Schweitzer Engineering Labs in Pullman, WA. He continued his career as a field service engineer at Schneider Electric performing commissioning and maintenance testing of protection relays. At this time, he was also involved with engineering IEC 61850 based substation automation systems. Mike is currently a sales engineer with Doble Engineering Company. He also holds a B.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto and is a registered engineer in the province of Ontario.
