This will be a joint meeting with the Central Iowa Chapter of the Power and Energy Society.

The April Section meeting will be a tour of Skarshaug Testing Laboratory.  This tour was originally scheduled for January but had to be cancelled due to blizzard conditions.  Skarshaug tests safety equipment used by electrical workers to keep them safe when working with energized electrical equipment.  David and Matthew Skarshaug will provide an overview of the operation and lead us on a tour of the facility.

Founded in 1950, Skarshaug Testing Laboratory (STL), is a leader in the testing and sales of Electrical Worker’s Personal Protective Equipment. STL is one of about 40 independent testing laboratories in North America, and was the first such lab accredited by the Association of North American Independent Laboratories for Protective Equipment Testing (NAIL for PET). STL has 25 employees, and customers in every state and Canada. STL builds its own line of glove inflators and sleeve expanders. STL was founded by ISU graduate Paul Skarshaug in 1950. Paul was a pioneer in the field of testing of insulating electrical protective gear, and served on ASTM and ANSI committees that developed many of the current standards that govern the manufacture and testing of personal protective equipment for electrical workers.  Paul Skarshaug was the founder and first president of NAIL.

After the tour we will have dinner at Hickory Park Restaurant, 1404 S. Duff Avenue, Ames IA.  This dinner is optional and everyone will order from the menu.
