Seminar on Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN)
Enabling IoT for Smart Cities with LPWAN
Abstract:
During the past few years, we have witnessed an emergence of Wide Area Networks in the Internet of Things (IoT) area. There are several new technologies like LoRa, Wi-SUN, Sigfox, that offer long-range communication and low power for low-bitrate applications. These new technologies enable new application scenarios, such as smart cities, smart agriculture, and more. However, when these networks co-exist in the same frequency band, they may cause problems to each other since they are heterogeneous and independent. Therefore it is very likely to have frame collisions between the different networks. Co-existence of the wireless networks is one challenge among many that the research community is working on.
In this talk, I am going present an overview of IoT and Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) in the context of smart cities. How this new technology is introduced to our everyday life? What are the new opportunities? How we can tackle network co-existence issues? This questions including background information about LPWANs and some of the latest results of my research are going to be presented in my talk.
