“Nanotextured Microfluidic Substrates to Interface Living Systems

You are invited to attend the October 8, 2019 Susquehanna Section Nanotechnology Chapter dinner/presentation which will be held in the Morrison Gallery, Library Building of Penn State Harrisburg at 6:30pm.

Title: “Nanotextured Microfluidic Substrates to Interface Living Systems"

Abstract:

The miniaturization of computers and electronic gadgets has been a result of advances in nanotechnology. We can now reproducible make nanoscale devices that can interface living systems at molecular scales. Many nanodevices and approaches have emerged in recent years to interface, detect, identify and quantify molecular biomarkers and diseased cells. Such devices provide quick and dependable analysis capabilities of very minute biological samples that are important for early diagnostics. Early diagnostics of diseased cells, especially when these are very few in numbers, can mean increased survival rates and better quality of life for cancer patients. The nanotechnology-based frameworks coupled microfluidics features can be used to measure viscoelastic, mechanical, electrical and chemical behaviors combinatorically to faithfully transduce important molecular and cellular anomalies to meaningful signals. This 2-lecture series will share some insights about challenges in early cancer diagnosis and an
overview of molecular detection, isolation and sorting of diseased cells with nanotechnologies and microfluidic channels.
