IEEE OKC Section - Kick Off Meeting for 2020 Activities and Updated dates

It's already 2020!

Happy New Year,

Remember Y2K, when we didn't know if our computers were going to work? We were using flip phones, Iphone was not released until 2007. AOL (American Online) was the main Internet provider via dial-up modem. Six Degrees was the Social Media and MySpace launched in 2003. FAX machines were the fastest way to transmit detailed information. Facebook came about in 2004 via Mark Zuckerberg, wish I bought some of that stock. Twitter came about in 2006 and SnapChat in 2011 so we are now definitely in the future with companies like Amazon and Walmart.

IEEE has changed too and its future looks bright for us and our OKC Section so I have planned a kick off meeting this Jan 16, 2020 at the Garden Exhibition Center Hall near 3400 NW 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, first right south off Grand Blvd ( in the all glass building). Light meal will be provided. Remember Members can participate in administrative meeting to help us outline our path in the future.

First we need to recruit potential Senior Members candidates for elevation so if you have about 10 years of experience as an Engineer or Computer Specialist attend this meeting and bring a Resumes to help identify Senior Members for the three references needed.

Then we plan to review 2020 contact information mostly for Student Branches and HKN officers and advisors.

We also need to review 2019 budget, financial reporting and set 2020 Budget for the Section, Chapters, Affiliates and any Student Branches support if needed. All Section, Chapter and Affiliate group meeting reports have been completed. Student Branches need to complete officer reports for 2020 and meeting reports for 2019 immediately.

Like to see future meeting dates set for Chapters and Affiliates and any SB Joint Meetings anticipated for the year. This tentative calendar of events can set a recurring meeting date frequency and possible common location for the majority of meetings.

Our future leadership in the Region provides us the opportunity to establish meeting dates every two weeks for future Green Technology Conf and the R5 Annual conference we are hosting in Downtown OKC for the coordination and review our activities is very important. This conferences activity runs from 1-5 April 2020. Our Website registration module should be under review this week so will need update the schedule of GT Conf activities like technical presentations, workshops, tours and KN speakers to the website and then send out an IEEE-USA e-notice.

For new officer or future officers like to schedule dates to conduct officer training; the number interested will determine a meeting location site and date or dates on Websites, vtools, (enotice, meeting reporting, and officer reporting) and use of IEEE Analytics.

The Future Cities OKC Regional Competitions was rescheduled to Monday Jan 20 at Cox's Convention Center Concourse 2nd floor, Registration starts 12:30 AM, Judging is 1:30 PM to 4 PM. Finals 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

The Oklahoma Engineers Banquet and Engineer for the Day is Thursday Feb 20. If you company would like to host a HS Student as (Engineer for the Day) for the event visit Local Chapter Events

Oklahoma Engineering Foundations Engineering Fair will host our Electric Motor Competition that the Life Members Support is scheduled for Wed Feb 19, 2020.

We need select 3 people to attend the IEEE Section Congress in Ottawa Ca (Correction on Date) Aug 21-23, 2020. Region Supports Section Chair or Delegate. The Section can support two additional people by budget but priority will be given to those volunteers that already serve our community. Same goes for Chapter Chairs, you need to check and pick a candidate for each of your Annual Society Meetings; OKC section can provide reasonable secondary travel support, Society should provide about 75% of the travel expense within the continental US or CA.
