Southeastern Michigan Section (SEM)

Welcome to the Southeastern Michigan IEEE Section. 

This training session will focus on utilizing the IEEE vTools ( https://site.ieee.org/vtools/ ) system "Officer Reporting" and "Student Branch Reporting" elements of the vTools suite.  By the conclusion of the class, we expect everyone will be able to effectively:

  • Log into the vTools system,
  • Identify the various suite tools,
  • Locate Tutorial information on the vTools and SEM Websites,
  • Open the Officer Reporting tool, and locate the Branch site.
  • Update, and confirm, officer changes.
  • Open the Student Branch Reporting tool, and locate the Branch site.
  • Update and secure initial plans, and modify plans through the year.
  • Log out of the vTools system.

NOTE:

1.  Each officer must have their IEEE username and password available in order to participate in the class.  

2.  Each officer should bring their laptop, or other computing device and have access to the LTU WiFi network.  

3.  The Student Branch Reporting tool expects to have plans laid our for the entire 2020 calendar year.  Discussion among the Branch Officeers, Faculty Counsoler and Branch Mentors to establish realistic plans for the year will greatly facilitate this portion of the class.

Student Branch Officer use of vTools

Hands On Training.

Biography:

Kimball Williams retired from DENSO as a “Technical Fellow” in 2012.  

He is an IEEE Senior Life Member and Past Chair of the IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section. 

He is a certified Master EMC Design Engineer and an ‘Honored Member’ of the IEEE EMC Society where he serves as one of the Past Presidents Emeritus and current Director of Professional Activities. 

Kim is a licensed private pilot, PADDY certified scuba diver, licensed amateur radio operator (Call sign: N8FNC) and plays classical guitar in his ‘spare’ time.
