Wireless Power via Laser at PowerLight Technologies

Biography:

Tom Nugent is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of PowerLight Technologies (formerly LaserMotive), and has been working on optical wireless power for more than a decade.  His degrees are in physics (from UIUC) and materials science (from MIT), and he started out working on advanced space propulsion concepts and hardware.  Immediately prior to PowerLight, Tom worked at Intellectual Ventures Labs, a multidisciplinary early-stage R&D laboratory where he designed and prototyped unpublished medical devices, and he was also involved in the Photonic Fence project that used lasers to kill mosquitoes to combat malaria.  At PowerLight he focuses at the system level on bringing the crazy idea of power beaming to commercial reality.
