How you can impact Industry Standards!

The IEEE PES Switchgear Committee will be bringing its biannual meetings Fort Worth, TX from October 4 – 8, 2020!  Learn how you can get involved with the development of industry standards, including ground-breaking activities in arc-flash mitigation and dc circuit protection and distribution equipment.  This presentation is aimed to introduce some key topics of the upcoming conference, challenges the industry is facing in those areas, and to inform and encourage everyone from rookie engineers to seasoned veterans to get involved.

Biography:

Keith Flowers is a Principal Solutions Engineer for Siemens Industry, Electrical Products Division.  Over his 25 year career with Siemens, Keith has been involved with design, commissioning, and application of low- and medium-voltage power circuit breakers, low- and medium-voltage switchgear, low-voltage motor control equipment.  Keith also currently serves within Siemens Industry as ANSI, CANENA, CSA, IEEE, and NEMA Industry Standards Manager for low- and medium-voltage power distribution products.  Keith has four patents associated with passive arc-flash mitigation systems.

 

Over the last 17 years, Keith has been an active participant in IEEE standards.  Keith is the Past Chair of the IEEE PES Low-Voltage Switchgear Devices Subcommittee, and is the current Chair of the IEEE PES Switchgear Committee – the largest standards writing technical committee within the IEEE Power and Energy Society.    Keith is also serving IEEE as the Vice-Chair of the IEEE Standards Board Standards Coordinating Committee on Quantities, Units, and Letter Symbols (SCC14).
