INOVATION ,KNOWLEDGE BASE ECONOMY AND CHIP DESIGN

IEEE CEME Student Branch organized a technical talk on “INOVATION,KNOWLEDGE BASE ECONOMY AND CHIP DESIGN”.Innovation, the cornerstone of progress in the modern era, plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of a knowledge-based economy. This symbiotic relationship between innovation and knowledge forms the bedrock of economic growth, as societies transition from traditional models to those centered around information and intellectual capital.

Topic:

INOVATION ,KNOWLEDGE BASE ECONOMY AND CHIP DESIGN

Biography:

The speaker of the event was DR Rashad Ramzan ,he received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, M.Sc. degree from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm and the Ph.D. degree from Linkoping University, Sweden, in 1994, 2003, and 2009, respectively, all in electronics engineering. He has been involved in research and development throughout his professional career in industry and academia. He has authored over 70 journals & conference papers, and 15 US patents. He worked in the electronics industry at different research and development positions in Pakistan, USA, Germany, Sweden and South Africa. One of his designed LNA was published in ISSCC 2007. He is a recipient of the two best paper awards and two chancellor innovation awards. He founded an IC Design (ICD) lab in 2018 and envisaged the 1st MS IC Design Program in Pakistan with current enrollment of 43 graduate students. Currently, he is Professor of Elect. Engineering, Director of ICD lab at EE department, and CEO of Pi Invent, a company working in 5G/6G IC design technologies. His research interests are Analog & Mixed Circuit IC Design, RFIC Design, 5G/6G Radio Circuits, VLSI Design, Ultra Low Power Circuits, Energy Tunneling, Bio-Sensors, Wireless Power Transfer Circuits and Sensors.

Agenda

Innovation is the backbone of a knowledge based economy. The presentation took the audience step by step through a cycle of innovation based on  examples of vaccine quality monitoring microchips, and plant water sensing systems. These packageless microchips use nano watt temperature and humidity sensors, wireless power transfer, back scattering and a new class of AC powered logic gates and processing elements.

The birth of these ideas took place to Dr.Rashad Ramzan in 2009 when polio cases were reported in the north of Pakistan and in 2012 during his travel through empty quarters (Rub al Khali), one of the largest deserts on a globe. This research results in two test microchips and three US patents and several publications.

The seminar on INOVATION ,KNOWLEDGE BASE ECONOMY AND CHIP DESIGN was conducted succesfully.
