Advocating for yourself in the workplace: How to talk to your boss/co-workers about what you need

You are not alone! Many women have had the experience of being the only woman in a male-dominated organization. We’ll provide a short interactive workshop where we’ll share what we know and what we’ve seen, and invite you to role-play in a safe environment those conversations you need to have with your boss/co-worker(s) to keep your sanity and get what you deserve! Think you can help another woman engineer navigate this terrain? Need help yourself? This workshop is for you!

Bryn has 30+ years of experience as a business and systems analyst with a BBA in Management from UMass Amherst and an MS in Computer Information Systems from Boston University. The poster child for the winding career path, going from Banking to User-Centered Design in Software Development; from HR to Corporate IT and back. Throughout that journey, she has stayed tethered to her Career Anchor (from Edgar H. Schein’s tool): Pure Challenge. The bigger, more complicated the problem, the more appealing it is! Particularly if it involves learning new domains, technologies or cultures. For all but 6 years of her career, Bryn has been responsible for teams of people, as a direct supervisor or a project leader and is a recognized champion for Women’s Professional Development at MITRE.  She is passionate about STEM outreach, coaching, and mentoring kids including her own.
