IEEE New York Section and Manhattan College present a technical presentation for the NY Chapter of the Broadcast Technology Society.

Abstract   Embedded Systems Devices have become more common in our day to day living routines, it varies from smart phones to a control panel of a nuclear planet. The technological race has been advancing at an increasing rate- Moore’s Law states that the number of computer hardware able to fit within a device, will double every two years. This acceleration allows introducing a world that is full of Embedded Systems devices that have different usages and types. The computing devices allow homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses to flourish using the ability to store and organize information as well as having them do certain tasks such as managing bills and attendance. The Control panels control building systems such as electricity, HVAC, CCTV as well as doors and light controls. These devices are making life for the human race more comfortable, create easier means of communication, and allows automation of multiple tasks in human life. This lecture will cover the different approaches to configure these Embedded Systems devices and Broadcasting this Software Configuration over a communication networks.

Bio:   Waleed Mohamed, Ph.D is a Software Telecommunications professional with more than 10 years of industry experience. Currently, Dr. Mohamed is a SW Architect at IBM - Watson Health, where he focuses on health Imaging and he is leading the software development in order to help the enhancement of image capturing and processing for ophthalmologists. Prior to his current role at IBM, Dr Mohamed has worked at the Research and Development department at Mircom Group of companies as a Team Lead and SR. Software Architect, where he lead the development of multiple nesh technology projects in the areas of 3D Monitoring, Fire Alarm Systems, Security systems, Mass notification systems, IOT and home automation. In 2013, his pioneer monitoring software (OpenGN) won the first place Addison Award for smart system. His research interests span Smart System, 3D graphics and animation, Medical images, and IOT (internet of things). Much of his work has been on improving the understanding, design, and performance of smart systems, monitoring and automation systems, mainly through the application of 3D graphics, algorithms, and visualization. Dr. Mohamed graduated from the Cairo University, with a bachelor’s and Master degree in Information Technology, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He finished his Ph.D. studies at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada in 2011 and he is the author and co-author in a large number of journal and conference papers. In addition to his activities as a reviewer in a number of IEEE conferences and journals.
