Performance Based Network Concept for Advanced Air Traffic Services
Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) data communications provide an enabling infrastructure upon which critical NextGen capabilities are built. The NextGen advanced air traffic management services have stringent data network performance requirements that are challenging to the existing Air Traffic Services (ATS) data communication protocols such as Future Air Navigation System (FANS) and Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol.
This presentation will describe a performance-based network concept that that makes use of multiple links to improve the overall communications capabilities and meet the technical performance requirements of the Baseline 2 ATS data communications. Preliminary analysis shows that this concept has potential to improve FANS network performance, and help resolve the frequent occurrence of long delays and provider aborts experienced with the ATN OSI protocols.
