Southwest Missouri IEEE Speaker - CAES Microelectronic Fabrication in GaAs and GaN

Southwest Missouri IEEE Section Speaker – Microelectronic Fabrication in GaAs and GaN
Dave Frey,  CAES Technical Fellow, will give an overview presentation on microelectronic fabrication in GaAs and GaN, including an introduction to semiconductor materials, device physics, design trades, and transistor types.  An example design flow and circuits will demonstrate what can be achieved using these technologies.

Meeting will be held Virtual online, link information in Details.  Physical meeting locations will be at Missouri State University, see Details and College of the Ozarks engineering building at Point Lookout.  Snacks and beverages will be provided at the physical locations.

The IEEE Region 5 Annual Meeting and Student Contests were held April 6th and 7th.  A brief discussion will be held on these activities.  The Section and MSU sponsored 5 students to participate in the Region 5 Student Contests.  This was the first time for the Section.  There were contests in Ethics, Circuit Design, Robotics, Cybersecurity and Essays.  The students placed first in the Circuit Design competition.  Hopefully we will be able to support a student group next year in the Region 5 Meeting in Wichita next March.

Biography:

Dave Frey is a Senior Engineering Fellow with CAES. He has over
30 years of industry experience spanning component design
through systems. At the component level he’s used silicon
LDMOS, GaAS and GaN to design power amplifiers, LNA’s, Gain
Blocks, and RF switches covering designs from 1 MHz to 50 GHz.
In addition to design, extensive time has been spent in the lab,
measuring RF circuits, transistors and performing device
modeling
