Topic:

The Spectrum of Ultrasound Imaging: From Basic Principles to Future Scope

Abstract:. From medical diagnostics to non-destructive testing, ultrasound methods have emerged as essential
instruments, praised for their non-ionizing properties and economic feasibility. Speaker presents a systematic
framework for familiarizing participants with the fundamental concepts regulating ultrasound devices, imaging
processes, and many applications. Starting with the fundamentals of ultrasound physics, we trace the path of
signals through an imaging system, from electrical pulses within a beamformer and transducer to resounding
acoustic waves, and finally to interpretable electrical signals forming a vivid image. We then investigate a variety
of imaging modalities and their roles in the viewing of three-dimensional objects. Finally, keep in mind that
ultrasound acts as a bridge of understanding, linking several fields with its eternal relevance.

Biography:

Dr. Payal Gupta earned her M.Tech in Signal Processing from NSIT, DU in 2014 and her Ph.D. in
signal processing from CARE, IIT Delhi in April 2021. She coordinated initiatives at CDAC, Noida, combining
academics and industry. She is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Ultrasound measuring Lab at LTU in Sweden
after graduating from IIT Delhi. Her work there focused on high-resolution ultrasound imaging using a neuralnetwork architecture.
