Meeting of the Philadelphia Joint chapter IEEE Power & Energy and Industry Applications Societies


The presentation will cover hazardous locations with the intent to provide proper project design, material selection and installation to comply with the requirements of the National Electrical Code. Specific topics will include classification information of hazardous areas such as Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, D, and Temperature Ratings (T-Ratings). Also covered will be evaluation of hazardous areas, sources of ignition, product construction and flame paths, equipment for hazardous locations, wiring methods and materials. The conclusion will be a video showing how explosion proof equipment functions.

Robert C. Potter, Jr. of Eaton Crouse-Hinds

Biography:

Bob is the Eastern Region Field Application Specialist for Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds Business.  His electrical industry career spans 35 years which 21 has been with Crouse-Hinds. Bob is a member of IEEE and IAS, and has been twice published in IAS magazine. Bob serves on the IEEE Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Executive Committee, was the Local Chair for the 2016 IEEE PCIC Philadelphia conference, and is currently the PCIC Vice Chair of the Facilities Committee. In 2011, Bob participating on a team proposing clarifications to the National Electrical Code which were approved for the 2014 edition.  Bob has also been presenting at the National Training Institute NJACT, NECA, IBEW, annual conference in Ann Arbor Michigan since 2015.
