Home and Business Security: How to Protect Yourself Without a Cyber Security Staff
Hackers are focused on making money through stealing data, stealing credit cards, or holding your data for ransom. Recent attacks have shown they are getting smarter about how they steal data, or make money. This presentation will look at threats and against people at home or in business and how you can better protect yourself. We will discuss a couple of example data breaches and talk about methods to mitigate data loss under this new threat environment.
The ISU Student Branch will host the meeting.

This will be a joint meeting with the Central Iowa Section and the Computer Society Chapter.

Dr. Doug Jacobson of Iowa State University
Biography:
Doug Jacobson is a University Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University and an IEEE Fellow. Dr. Jacobson joined the faculty in 1985 after receiving a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University in 1985. Dr. Jacobson is currently the director the Iowa State University Information Assurance Center, which has been recognized by the National Security Agency as a charter Center of Academic Excellence for Information Assurance Education. He is also director the Internet-Scale Event and Attack Generation Environment (ISEAGE). Dr. Jacobson teaches network security and information warfare. Dr. Jacobson's current funded research is targeted at developing robust countermeasures for network-based security exploits and large scale attack simulation environments. A few funded projects have led to patents and have been successfully transferred industry. Dr. Jacobson has received two R&D 100 awards for his security technology and has two patents in the area of computer security. Dr. Jacobson has given over 75 presentations in the area of computer security and has testified in front of the U.S. Senate committee of the Judiciary on security issues associated with peer-to-peer networking.
