Internet of Things: Critical Issues and Challenges

The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) in connected home, connected automobile, connected health care system and other areas, have created severe challenges to technologists, manufacturers, people, government and other entities. The sheer scope of IoT carries countless security and privacy implications for businesses, individuals and organizations. The proliferation of IoT devices in home, office and manufacturing environment, imposes challenges of harnessing large data while maintaining security and confidentiality. In addition, it imposes privacy, social and legal challenges.

In this talk some use cases of autonomous vehicles will be discussed for their implications on security, privacy, social and legal challenges. Similar examples of early deployment in the medical area for monitoring vital signs and automated drug delivery will be described. Many challenges of securing and controlling privacy in smart homes call for public awareness in the use of these devices.

Proliferation of large scale deployment of IoT devices without proper design for solutions to security, privacy and big-data challenges has put the industry on attention. Proper administrative, social and legal changes are needed by people, government and businesses.
