The IEEE QLD Section's Control Systems/Robotics and Automation Society presents a series of talks on Automation, Control System, Robotic, Human Interaction & Reliability (ARHR). The second installement of this series will be given by Dr. Paul Pounds from UQ on Friday 23 June 6.00pm-7.30pm. Details are given below:

Date: Friday 23 June

Time: 6.00pm - 7.30pm

Venue: Room 78-343, GP-South Building 78, University of Queensland, St. Lucia, QLD

Title: Making Hovering Robots Useful

Abstract:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) hold tremendous promise in a broad variety of applications. However, they seem forever on the cusp of true utility: always too expensive, too limited in endurance, or too dangerous to cross the threshold into utility. The Robotics Design Lab Aerial Robotics Group aims to address these problems by finding novel design and construction approaches to reduce costs, increase performance and improve safety of miniature robotic aircraft.

Speaker bio:
Dr. Paul Pounds is a senior lecturer in mechatronics at the University of Queensland. He completed his PhD in robotics at ANU in 2008, and his post-doctoral studies at Yale in 2011. He co-founded the UQ Robotics Design Lab in 2012. He is a 2013 ARC DECRA fellow, and 2015 Queensland Science Tall Poppy winner. In 2010 he co-founded Olaeris Inc, a first-responder drone company based in North Carolina, and holds over a dozen patents.
