IEEE North Jersey Section Course:  Introduction to the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

Nov 11 and 18, 2017. Two weekly classes, Saturday afternoons from 13:30 to 17:00.

IEEE North Jersey Section is offering a course entitled "Introduction to the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B". The Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized computer launched by the Raspberry Pi foundation. This tutorial is designed to teach complete beginners how to use their Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi works by using a version of Linux and Python. Python Programming has gained enormous popularity in many different domains and is heavily used with the RPi.

This course is for anyone, even those with no prior embedded device experience. The participants will be provided the necessary software and written materials to get started. Students are expected to purchase a RPi3 model B kit and peripherals to be used in the class. The instructor will provide a listing of required parts for those bringing their own RPi to the course. Alternatively, the instructor can purchase a complete RPi kit as needed in the class and provide the kit at cost to the student. The price of the kit is not included in the course registration and is a separate charge. Students are expected to bring their own laptop computers with which most RPi interfacing will occur.

The course objective is to provide a basic overview of the most common features of the RPi I/O and it's use to apply in a Raspberry Pi for daily tasks. It will give participants a starting point for more advanced learning on other IoT projects.

Students will learn to load and configure the required Raspberry Pi environment. This will be used to do perform tasks and build projects using Python on Raspberry Pi for Internet of Things embedded applications.

IEEE Certificate of Completion (0.7 CEU - Continuing Education Unit) are available for separate purchase of $9 on the last course day.
