Program description: |
The morning session is an introduction to programming and animation in 2d using Processing. This astonishing tool makes it very easy to learn programming and yet it is not a language, but rather a brilliant pedagogical wrapper on Java that allows beginners to learn more easily. Since everything underneath is still Java, processing is not a "baby" or "toy" language. If you bring a laptop and install processing (from processing.org), you can practice while you learn which is the most effective way. Processing is free, open source, and a lot of fun. |
The afternoon session will be an introduction to programming in OpenSCAD including use of a 3d printer (although because 3d printers are slow, only a few models can be printed). |
Instructor: Dov Kruger is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Stevens Institute of Technology. Dr. Kruger has developed engineering and programming curricula used in over 45 schools nationwide. He is currently working on research in secure web protocols and applying for grants to encourage more under-represented groups get into engineering fields.
IEEE Organizer: Dr. Yu-Dong Yao, Professor and Department Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology.
