FIRST LEGO League Judge and Referee Training

Hi All,

Judge Training

There are several avenues for Judge Training. Everyone that will be judging this year should take the training. As last year you must be certified to judge at the state championship in January. If you certified last year you don't have to go through the base training but do have to take and pass with 80% or better the certification questions. This will consist of two certification quizzes, the Judge Certification plus the quiz for the area you will be judging, Core Values, Project or Robot Design. When I re-certified this year I thought the quizzes were much improved over last year. If this is the first time you have been a judge you will need to take the training modules associated with the appropriate certifications. To get to these training materials log-on to VIMS at:

https://my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/Login/VIMS_Login.aspx

On the left side of the screen at the bottom of the list should be a link enabled, "Go to Certification". Clicking on that link will take you to the BlueVolt site to take the training. BlueVolt uses the same login as VIMS.

There will be an on-site training session for judges on Wednesday 26 October at 6:30 PM in the East Providence City Hall Conference Room. 145 Taunton Ave, East Providence, RI 02914. This Training is especially recommended for those folks that have not been a judge before.

We still need a lot of judges at all events so please volunteer early and often.

Agenda

Slightly different this year is a requirement by FIRST that all judges for championship events as well as Judge Advisers and Head Judges at all events complete the training and be Certified. There are two ways to become certified; we can conduct the training in-person using materials provided by FIRST and certify you or as an alternative you can take the training on-line. I highly recommend you attend the in person training at NET. Not only can we address specific local information but it will provide maximum flexibility should we need you to fill in for some reason without you having to scramble at the last minute trying to become certified.
