Private trucking fleets move goods short distances (less than 200 miles in a day) from a central location to satellite locations.  The goods moved can be anything:  food, baked goods, fuel, liquified gas.  Moving those goods can be expensive.  Semi-trailer trucks gulp fuel.  Delays creep in due to traffic or breakdowns.  Local regulations change, forcing drivers to change habits or face fines.  Drivers need to maintain accurate logs or incur fines in the tens of thousands of dollars per infraction for their employer.

Software and hardware combined together form a system that trucking companies can use to boost fuel efficiency, improve fleet safety, eliminate fines due to inaccurate driver logs.  In addition, such a system can eliminate other sources of inefficiency.

In this talk, Ed Nelson will discuss how such a system works.  I will highlight how custom and OTS hardware was used with software to create a system that kept private fleets running as efficiently as possible.

Hardware and Software for tracking trucks

Biography:

Ed Nelson worked at Cadec Global from 2007 to 2014.  He's currently working in Lowell MA for Vantiv eCommerce.

While he worked at Cadec Global, he worked on two different private fleet tracking solutions.  He was wrote code for communications, customizations, and delivery tracking.  He decided he liked playing with semi-trailer trucks, and loved going on-site to visit customers at their locations.
