Thursday Dec. 7 - Computer Science Education Panel

-----

PRINCETON ACM / IEEE-CS CHAPTERS
DECEMBER 2017 JOINT MEETING

Computer Science Education Panel

The first week of December is ACM's Computer Science Education Week -- and we are celebrating with a panel of local computer science educators.

- Arta Szathmary will talk about "computational thinking" and why it is important. Arta will demonstrate some hands-on activities that are useful in the classroom (and fun!).
- Jan Buzydlowski and Rebecca Mercuri will talk about their experiences in using the Python language in education -- the PyGame library (for simple multimedia applications) and the Numpy and Pandas libraries (for numerical processing and data management).
- Daryl Detrick will discuss the initiatives that are helping us reach our goal to ensure that all students in New Jersey have the opportunity to study Computer Science.

Arta Szathmary is a Professor Emeritus from Bucks County Community College and past President of PA4C, Community College Computing Consortium of Pennsylvania and Secretary of CSTA>>Philly. Jan Buzydlowski is an assistant professor in the Informatics Department within the School of Business at Holy Family University. Rebecca Mercuri is a visiting professor at Drew University and the head of Notable Software, a consulting firm specializing in computer forensics and security. Daryl Detrick is a computer science teacher at Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington, NJ and past president of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) of Central NJ.
