DESCRIPTION:Dinnertime Meeting and Talk\n\nTopic: Power Quality / Harmonic
Distortion\n\nAbstract:\n\nPower electronic devices are commonplace and in
creasing in number in commercial and industrial facilities as well as the
grid. Power electronics provide electrical device control and modulation t
hrough voltage and frequency manipulation as well as many other functions.
Utilities across the country are concerned about power quality as it effe
cts them as well as their customers.\nPower electronics are found in trans
formers\, invertors\, variable frequency drives\, ballasts\, drivers\, pow
er supplies\, LED lamps\, computers\, programmable logic controllers and o
thers. However\, as power electronic devices multiply so does the occurren
ce and magnitude of harmonic distortion in the electrical distribution sys
tem. Excessive harmonic distortion can lead to unresponsive equipment\, an
d electronic equipment damage.\nThis talk will address power quality issue
s and harmonic distortion in facilities:\n\n1. What is good and bad power
quality?\n2. Fundamentals of creating and avoiding power quality issues\n3
. What are harmonics?\n4. How are power electronics associated with harmon
ics?\n5. Consequences of harmonics\n6. Harmonic distortion levels and thre
sholds\n7. Mitigative and corrective measures\n\nNote: Registration is lim
ieted to 40 ATTENDEES. Only registered members will be admitted if the roo
m fills.\n\nParking & Entrance\n\nParking for the talk will be in the lot
at 623 E Main St. This lot is west of Railroad Street. The MGE entrance is
623 Railroad St. Look for the green MGE logo near the doors. Guests will
need to be escorted from the entrance to the meeting room on the third flo
or.\n\nSpeaker(s): Eric Sonju\, Duane Craig\n\nAgenda: \n5:00 -- Social an
d Dinner\n\nMeal Donation (Suggested): Members: $5\, Guests: $10\, Student
s: Free\n\n5:15 -- Power Quality Talk\n\n6:00 -- Questions\n\nNote: Parkin
g and ENTRANCE for the talk will be in the lot at 623 E Main St. This lot
is west of Railroad Street. The MGE entrance is 623 Railroad St. Look for
the green MGE logo near the doors. Guests will need to be escorted from th
