DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Asst. Prof. Selçuk Yerci\, Middle East Technical Univ
ersity\n\nTopic: "Light Management in Photovoltaics"\n\nLocation: Middle E
ast Technical University\, Ankara\, Turkey\n\nAbstract: The global photovo
ltaics (PV) industry and installations in sun abundant regions in the Worl
d have been growing tremendously. PV now offers electricity at a price bel
ow $20 MW/h [1]. The roar of PV has been mainly based on implementation of
well-developed know-how at lower cost. However\, recently\, new ideas are
suggested to further increase the conversion efficiency of PV cells. This
talk will start with an overview of PV research. Then\, I will discuss th
e methods suggested to increase the efficiency of PV cells. Finally\, I wi
ll focus on light management in photovoltaics to boost the efficiency [2\,

arch was mainly focused on silicon photonics\, in particular silicon compa
tible light sources. After completing his Ph.D. he worked as a post-doctor
al associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on thin film cry
stalline silicon solar cells. Dr. Yerci is currently an assistant professo
r in Micro and Nanotechnology Programme\, and in Electrical and Electronic
s Engineering at Middle East Technical University. Dr. Yerci continues his
research activities in his research group (app.mnt.metu.edu.tr) under the
Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications (GUNAM) laboratories (g
unam.metu.edu.tr). His recent research is mainly focused on high-efficienc
