DESCRIPTION:Dear all\, Details of second talk in Seminar Series on SP/COM:
Title: Power allocation for OFDM-based cognitive radio systems under avera
ge interference constraint Date/Time: March 20\, 2013\, 6.05 pm Venue: DA
229\, ACES Speaker: Kedar Kulkarni\, PhD Student Abstract: Cognitive radio
is an opportunistic spectrum access technique to efficiently utilize spec
trum allocated to licensed users (or Primary users). Orthogonal frequency
division multiplexing (OFDM) is considered as a potential transmission tec
hnology for cognitive radio systems due to its numerous advantages. While
using the available spectrum\, it has to be ensured that performance of th
e primary system doesn’t degrade due to interference from cognitive
/secondary user. Thus power allocation techniques like water-filling or un
iform allocation which are used in classical OFDM-systems have to be modif
ied to take into consideration the interference constraint. We will discus
s mathematical formulation of such a power allocation problem for a given
spectrum scenario. Methods considered in the literature consider a static
spectrum scenario where bands not occupied by primary users remain unoccup
ied throughout the transmission period of secondary user. Such power alloc
ation schemes may cause more interference to primary system in a practical
scenario where primary users can arrive or depart at any time. We will di
scuss a power allocation scheme which takes into account this dynamic acti
vity of primary users. You are encouraged to go through following referenc
