DESCRIPTION:[LLE](http://www.lle.rochester.edu)\n\n[RES](http://www.roceng.
org)The [Rochester Engineering Society](http://www.roceng.org) is hosting
a tour of the [Laboratory for Laser Energetics](http://www.lle.rochester.e
du) that you won’t want to miss! Please save the date (October 26th) on
your calendar today! Special rates for IEEE Members!\n\nThe [Laboratory fo
r Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester](http://www.lle.ro
chester.edu) is a unique national resource for research and education in s
cience and technology. LLE was established in 1970 as a center for the inv
estigation of the interaction of intense radiation with matter. The Nation
al Nuclear Security Administration funds LLE as part of its Stockpile Stew
ardship Program.\n\n[LLE](http://www.lle.rochester.edu/about/tour.php)\n\n
The OMEGA Laser Facility stands 10 meters tall and is approximately 100 me
ters in length. This system delivers pulses of laser energy to targets in
order to measure the resulting nuclear and fluid dynamic events. OMEGA's 6
0 laser beams focus up to 40\,000 joules of energy onto a target that meas
ures less than 1 millimeter in diameter in approximately one billionth of
a second. At LLE scientists continue to research what will one day become
a vast source of power using the ocean's ample storehouse of potential ene
rgy.\n\nLimit: 50 People\n\nCost: $10 for RES & IEEE Individual Members\;
$25 for Non-members\n\nReservations: ADVANCE PAID RESERVATION REQUIRED!\n\
nLight Snacks will be provided!\n\nCo-sponsored by: Rochester Engineering
Society\n\nRoom: Lobby\, Bldg: Laboratory for Laser Energetics\, Universit
