 \n\nThe fourth edition of SS12 ASIA: AGE OF INNOVATION 2018\, a Coding and
  Making Challenge jointly organized by Madras IEEE Education Society\, Pro
 ject Possibility and REAL Breakthrough was hosted in NSBM (National School
  of Business Management) Green University Town\, Homagama\, Colombo\, Sri 
 Lanka by IEEE Sri Lanka section on 8th and 9th of September 2018 in partne
 rship with Universities and leading technology industry companies across A
 sia Pacific\, UAE\, Africa and Afganisthan. The challenge is conducted ann
 ually to recognize the best social innovation application and this year th
 e theme given was:\n\n‘EMPATHY TO ENGINEERING: SOLUTIONS FOR MACROISSUES
 ’\n\nThe theme Empathy to Engineering aims to create a platform for the 
 Engineering Students and professionals to learn Design Thinking the enjoya
 ble way at the same time governed by rules and regulations. The domains se
 lected were the areas covered by UN Sustainable Development Goals addressi
 ng the issues like Poverty and Famine\, Disaster Management and first aid\
 , Special Needs\, Women Safety\, Healthcare\, Illiteracy and so on.\n\nUnd
 er this the projects were solicited as Mobile Apps or Computer Based or Io
 T based systems.\n\nThe event was conducted in four tracks –\n\nINNOVATI
 ON CHALLENGE: Pilots were called for and thirty pilots registered from 8 c
 ountries. They conducted prelims of the innovation challenge at their plan
 ned dates and one team was selected as winner. The winner was selected on 
 the basis of the Creativity\, novelty and usefulness to society.\n\nMAKER 
 FAIR: Maker Fair track is organized to help the students display their tec
 hnical skills and team work. Under this abstracts will be called for and e
 valuated for their social usefulness and ability to be converted into a pr
 oduct.\n\nSS12 JUNIOR EINSTEIN TRACK:\n\nFresh minds cater for fresh innov
 ations in the domains untouched and for the issues unresolved. School chil
 dren with innovative ideas were invited to submit projects on the theme gi
 ven.\n\nSS12 VIRTUAL TRACK:\n\nParticipants who cannot reach the venue phy
 sically were invited to register for virtual track to present their projec
 ts online. This track is introduced for the countries for which pilots are
  not available.\n\nThe finals were conducted to a huge 400 plus number of 
 participants\, out of which 301 were IEEE members\, from all the above cou
 ntries with all different tracks planned meticulously. A volunteer force o
 f above 100 young professionals from India\, Sri Lanka\, Pakistan\, Bangla
 desh and USA worked towards making it a grand success.\n\nSpeakers were in
 vited from the above countries as well as juries. The total number of proj
 ects for the finals were around 140 on all tracks put together. The topics
  discussed on invited talks by speakers from industry and academia varied 
 from the theme of the event to innovation basics\, how to commercialize th

 chool children to engineering graduates and mentors and teachers flocking 
 around the 100 plus projects exhibited and presented\, all vying with each
  other to produce best solutions for social issues.\n\nThe event ended wit
 h the promise of the next edition of the event being hosted by Stamford Un
