DESCRIPTION:In the twenty years from 1997 to 2017\, annual shipments of PV
technologies have grown from 114.1-MWp in 1997 to over 90-GWp in 2017 for
a cumulative total since 1974 of 377-GWp. Annual shipments of slightly ove
r 114.1-MWp may seem quaint and trivial by today’s multi-gigawatt standa
rds\, but it marked a turning point in the industry. 1997 was the first ye
ar that the industry shipped over 100-MWp. This is also the period of Japa
n’s residential rooftop subsidy\, US Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS)
and Germany’s 100\,000 solar roof program. This presentation will cover
this historic period of PV industry growth while highlighting differences
between the industry of 1997 with that of the industry in 2017.\n\nSpeake
