DESCRIPTION:Blockchain technology is an immutable database that grows over 
 time from an initial root block. Each new block added is cryptographically
  linked to the previous block in a reversed link list that ends at the roo
 t block. The cryptographic linking prevents tampering of the data containe
 d in the blockchain\, and provides an immutable "ledger" of transactions t
 hrough time. The technology can be distributed and used as the basis of fa
 ct for agents and systems that operate in a decentralized fashion and requ
 ire no inter-dependent trust with other agents or systems. This is a relat
 ively new development in distributed systems research. Smart contracts and
  other programming constructs are opening the way for decentralized server
 less computing with blockchain being critical for maintaining state in a d
 ecentralized process. The talk focuses on the basics of blockchain and als
 o on the educational opportunities that exist to learn and understand bloc
