DESCRIPTION:About the Solar Park installed by M/s Greenko with 816 MWp Sola
r PV based Power Plant: The project was implemented by the Andhra Pradesh
Solar Power Corporation Private Limited (APSPCL)\, a joint venture of the
Government of Andhra Pradesh and government of India. M/s Greenko installe
d a 816MWp output capacity Ultra Mega Solar PV based Power Plant in this S
olar Park at Kurnool. This contributed to a giant leap in the Solar Capaci
ty installed in the Andhra Pradesh State. Construction of this Plant was s
tarted in October 2016 and it was commissioned on 31st March 2017 – in 1
66 days\, much ahead of the scheduled commissioning date of April 21st\, 2
017.\n\nThis Kurnool Solar Park is spread over a total area of 5\,932.32 a
cres (24.0072 km2) in the Ghani and Sakunala villages of Kurnool district
of AP State. The region is arid. The park utilizes over 4 million solar pa
nels with capacities of 315 and 320 Watts. The panels are connected to fou
r 220/33 kV pooling stations of 250 MW each and a 400 / 220kV grid substat
ion through nearly 2\,000 circuit kilometers of cables. During a sunny day
\, the Kurnool Solar Park is able to generate more than 8 million kWh of e
lectricity\, which is sufficient to meet virtually the entire electricity
demand in Kurnool district. A documentary on this project was telecasted i
n Discovery channel also.\n\nThe Operations & Maintenance of the Ultra Meg
a solar park is undertaken by Greenko’ s Asset management group. M/s Gre
enko has at this site a staff of about 100 trained AC and DC engineers alo
ng with technicians. They attend daily\, to the Preventive & Breakdown mai
ntenance works. Also they maintain to ensure high availability of the Plan
t and the Grid and eliminate the Solar Power Plant under performances\, th
us leading to high level of Generation and compliance to Performance Ratio
s.\n\nThe permission for this visit was obtained by IEEE-Student Branch of
G.Pulla Reddy Engineering College (GPREC) from Andhra Pradesh Solar Power
Corporation (a Govt. of AP Organization) and M/s Greenko company was assi
gned this task to explain and demonstrate the Solar plant. Sri Sreenivas N
aidu\, the Head of Greenko Solar Power plant at Kurnool arranged 2 enginee
rs i.e Sri Sreenivas Reddy and Sri Mahesh Kumar from Greenko company for e
xplanation of the project as well as demonstration of the site for all the
participants.\n\nDuring the visit all the participants (Total participant
s no is 150) who attended a two day “All Hyderabad Power and Energy Soci
ety Students Congress (AHPESSC-2018)” are to be divided into three batch
es (50 members in one group) as per suggestion from the M/s Greenko offici
als. The company officials will explain in detail about how solar energy f
rom the Sun can be utilized to generate electricity\, even at MW level. La
ter Greenko officials will demonstrate the Systems / Sub-Systems / equipme
nt used for solar electric power generation. Finally the participants will
be taken for site visit and they will be demonstrated how the plant works
