DESCRIPTION:Clean and Efficient Dynamic Provisioning in Green Cloud Data Ce
nters\n\nJing Bi\, Ph.D. & Associate Professor\n\nSchool of Software Engin
eering\, Faculty of Information Technology\, Beijing University of Technol
ogy\, Beijing\, China\n\nPlace: ECEC 202\n\nTime: 2pm\, December 18\, 2018
\n\nCloud computing is growingly used by companies\, governments and organ
izations. It is usually implemented in data centers where there are millio
ns of servers and cooling facilities. An increasing number of users send t
heir tasks to large-scale green cloud data centers (GCDCs) (e.g.\, Amazon
and Google)\, and this significantly increases the amount of energy consum
ption. This talk introduces some emerging progress made in this field and
emerging challenges on how to realize various clean and efficient dynamic
provisioning methods for applications in GCDCs\, including: (1) workload p
rediction for efficiency dynamic resource provisioning\; (2) economic elec
tric power network and workload scheduling for profit maximization\; an d
(3) open research problems\, directions and outlooks for future studies.\n
\nJing Bi received her B.S.\, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science f
rom Northeastern University\, Shenyang\, China. She is currently an Associ
ate Professor with the School of Software Engineering\, Faculty of Informa
tion Technology\, Beijing University of Technology\, Beijing\, China. She
is currently also a visiting research scholar with the Department of Elect
rical and Computer Engineering\, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)
\, Newark\, NJ. She was a Post-doc researcher at Department of Automation\
, Tsinghua University\, Beijing\, China. She was a research scientist at t
he Beijing Research Institute of Electronic Engineering Technology\, Beiji
ng\, China. She was a research assistant and participated in research on c
loud computing at the IBM Research-China. Her research interests are in di
stributed computing\, cloud computing\, large-scale data analytics\, machi
ne learning and performance optimization. She has over 60 publications inc
luding journal and conference papers. Dr. Bi was the recipient of IBM Ph.D
