DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT: AT THE REQUEST OF THE PRESENTER\, DR YANZHEN QU\, AN
D THE WEATHER FORECAST TOMORROW (13 MAR 2018)\, THE EVENT WILL BE POSTPONE
D TO EITHER LATE APRIL OR EARLY MAY. IF I CAN GET A VOLUNTEER FOR EITHER 2
4 OR 25 APRIL TO HELP HOST THE VENT. I WILL BE AWAY DURING THIS TIME. WE A
POLOGIZE FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE.\n\nABSTRACT. The Internet of Things (IoT)
has recently become a hot topic in both the commercial and academic world
. The innovative new products\, services\, and opportunities createdby the
extensive network of daily-use devices has attracted widespread attention
and huge investment from all aspects of society. However\, IoT also prese
nts new and unprecedented security and privacy challenges. The addition of
a huge number "things" to the internet\, most of which have no physical f
oundation to support even minimal security and privacy measures\, simply e
xceeds the limits of our collective knowledge and experience in internet s
ecurity and privacy. This talk will through some nontrivial IoT examples s
uch as the vehicle network consisting of many driverless cars and trucks p
resent insights into the key root causes of the security and privacy chall
enges related to the implementation of IoT\, and will also discuss opportu
nities which will facilitate the invention of appropriate technical soluti
ons and regulatory frameworks to address those causes.\n\nBIOGRAPHY. Dr. Y
anzhen Qu\, currently is the University Dean and Professor for the College
of Computer Science and Technology at Colorado Technical University (CTU)
.\n\nOver his 20+ year’s industrial professional career\, Dr. Qu has ser
ved at various executive level of product R&D and IT management positions
at several multinational corporations. He has led his multinational engine
ering teams successfully developed several the world first very large real
time commercial software systems and technologies. Since joining CTU in 2
008\, from 2012 to 2014\, Dr. Qu has led CTU student teams participated in
the yearly “National Security Innovation Competition”. Three years in
a roll\, the CTU student team has won the finalist among often over hundr
ed of entrants. In 2013\, the CTU student team has also won the first plac
e with 10K cash reward. In recent years\, he and his doctoral students hav
e published several dozen scholarly papers\, some of them have won “the
best paper award” at IEEE international conferences. The latest achievem
ent is to bring BS of Computer Science degree program\, which is fully lev
erage on the Cloud Computing and the innovative Adaptive Learning pedagogy
and technology\, to the CTU’s Online Campus.\n\nCurrently\, Dr. Qu is a
Senior Member of IEEE\, and a Fellow Member of IACSIT. Dr. Qu has often s
erved as the general or program chair or been invited as a keynote speaker
at many IEEE\, ASIS\, IFIP international conferences and workshops. He is
also an editorial board member of several professional peer reviewed Comp
uter Science or Information Technology journals. He has been invited as a
visiting professor of over thirty international universities.\n\nDr. Qu’
s current research interests include internet of things\, cyber security\,
 artificial intelligence\, data mining\, machine learning\, e-learning tec
hnologies\, software engineering\, cloud computing\, affective computing\,
as well as big data analytics.\n\nCo-sponsored by: John Santiago\n\nAgend
