DESCRIPTION:Today's concept of Smart Cities is that the thousands of camera
s and sensors installed in streets and public places will make cities safe
r and more efficient. However\, the matter of dealing intelligently with t
he voluminous data is often ignored. I will discuss how our video analytic
s work attempts to balance edge-cloud issues and learning methods (unsuper
vised\, active\, deep) to facilitate effective decisions and predictions f
or large-scale public spaces.\n\nSafety and efficiency alone do not make g
reat cities. I will also discuss art that makes use of public space camera
s. Fifty years after Bell Labs' Experiments in Art and Technologies (E.A.T
.) in New York City\, this engineer-artist collaboration has been resurrec
ted. I have worked with several artists and game-makers over the past few
years to enable their concepts via our video analytics. I will discuss Bro
oklyn Blooms\, Butterflies Alight\, and a Liberty Science Center installat
ion\, and may even challenge the audience to a game.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. La
rry O'Gorman\, \n\nAgenda: \npizza @ 6:15 PM\n\ntalk @ 6:30 PM\n\nRoom: 66
