DESCRIPTION:Fuel cells are one of the key enabling technologies for future
hydrogen\neconomy. For the last 20 years applications for the fuel cells a
re mostly\nreplacing internal combustions engines\, and providing power in
stationary\nand portable power applications. But the history of the fuel
cells is more\nthan the last 20 years\; actually it has more than 150 year
s! It is the\npurpose of this paper to present the development of the fuel
cells from\n1860 until 2010. This presentation will discuss the typical c
 haracteristics\nand electrochemical reactions a fuel cell. Additionally\,
it will be\npresented the basic concepts\, applications for the six main t
ypes of fuel\ncell technologies. Finally\, it is the intention of this tal
k to present the\nconcepts and history related to the fuel cells in a basi
c way. This talk\nwill be very helpful for undergraduate students\, gradua
te researchers\,\npeople interested in history topics\, and professional e
ngineers without\nprevious knowledge of the technical fields related to fu
 el cells.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. Eduardo Ortiz\, \n\nRoom: S207\, Bldg: Stefan
