DESCRIPTION:This lecture discusses the opportunity to incorporate multicast
 /broadcast point-to-multipoint (PTM) communication capabilities in 5G as b
uilt-in delivery features from the outset\, integrating unicast point-to-p
oint (PTP) and multicast/broadcast PTM modes under one common framework an
d enabling a dynamic use of PTM transmissions to maximize network and spec
trum efficiency. In combination with advanced caching technologies\, this
approach will open a door to completely new levels of network management a
nd delivery cost-efficiency. This lecture will introduce the ITU (Internat
ional Telecommunications Union) IMT-2020 (International Mobile Telecommuni
cation) standardization process\, review use cases for PTM transmissions i
n 5G\, and present the main technical challenges to design PTM communicati
on enablers in the 5G radio access and core networks and to provide 5G bro
adcast services using dynamic network slicing.\n\nSpeaker(s): David Gomez
