DESCRIPTION:The chief Guest of this event was Dr. Sandeep Anand\, who is an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering\, IIT Kan
pur and the Chairman of executive committee of PES-IAS Joint Chapter UP Se
ction\, Guest of Honour was Prof. Irshad Husain (Mentor of REC Ambedkar Na
gar)\, Dr. Sudhakar Tirpathi (Head\, ITD)\, Dr. Ayush Mittal (Head CED)\,
Dr. S P Singh (TEQIP Coordinator and Head\, EED\, REC Ambedkar Nagar)\, Dr
. Mohammed Aslam Husain (Branch Counsellor- IEEE student Branch and Chapte
r advisor PES Chapter of REC Ambedkar Nagar)\, Mr. Yudhishthir Pandey (Adv
isor\, WIE Affinity Group) other faculty members of the department & colle
ge and students were present. The department\, IEEE Student branch\, and I
EEE chapters of our college and PES-IAS Joint Chapter UP Section jointly o
rganized this event which was sponsored by TEQIP-III of REC Ambedkar Nagar
.\n\nProf. Irshad Husain (Mentor of REC Ambedkar Nagar) praised all facult
y members of Electrical Engineering Department for opening this new IEEE s
tudent branch chapter and also motivate to organize many events under this
banner.\n\nThe office bearers of our IEEE student branch are Dr. Mohammed
Aslam Husain (Branch Counsellor)\, Mr. Shivraj Vishwakarma (Branch Chair)
\, Ms. Preeti Maurya (Branch Vice -Chair)\, Maneesh K Gupta (Branch secret
ary)\, Mr. Akash Gangway (Branch Treasurer) and Ashish Kumar Saroj\, Neera
j Kumar (Branch Webmaster) & Mr. Amit Manjhi (PES chapter Chair)\n\nDr. Sa
ndeep Anand\, who is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrica
l Engineering\, IIT Kanpur and the Chairman of executive committee of PES-
IAS Joint Chapter UP Section\, delivered an expert lecture on the topic
“GaN based high frequency compact DC-DC converter”.\n\nIn the end\, Dr
. M Aslam Husain thanks to Dr. Sandeep Anand for delivering such a nice le
cture.\n\nTitle of the lecture: GaN based high frequency compact DC-DC con
verter\n\nAbstract of lecture– Low voltage dc distribution systems found
in modern space and aeronautical applications\, supply power to many crit
ical electronic loads\, often times employing the use of single-input\, mu
lti-output converters. Key challenges present in such systems is the volta
ge step-down necessary to drive low voltage\, high current loads\, and wid
e input voltage ranges. Many of these applications are also constricted by
size and weight. Gallium Nitride (GaN)\, a member of the wide bandgap sem
iconductor family\, is a state of the art enabling technology with a high
figure of merit compared to traditional silicon devices making it possible
to increase converter system efficiency and reduce system size.\n\nThis p
resentation would focus on increasing the power density of dc-dc converter
s. It would start with the basics of high gain dc-dc converters and GaN Hi
gh-Electron-Mobility Transistor (HEMT). Topics related to circuit topologi
es\, efficiency and power density would be discussed. The solutions to som
e of the problems\, found at Power Electronics for Renewable Integration (
PERI) Lab\, at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur\, India\, would
be presented. Joint projects carried out with the participation of variou
s Industries in this area\, would also be discussed\n\nBiography of Expert
– Sandeep Anand (S’10–M’13–SM’16) received the B.Tech. and Ph.
D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technolo
gy (I.I.T.) Bombay\, Mumbai\, India\, in 2007 and 2013\, respectively. He
has previously worked with Emerson Network Power\, Mumbai\, India\, and Co
smic Circuits Pvt. Ltd.\, Bengaluru\, India. Since 2013\, he is an Assista
nt Professor at I.I.T. Kanpur. He was a visiting faculty at Washington Sta
te university (WSU)\, Pullman\, WA\, US for Summer 2018. His research inte
rests are reliability of power electronic converters\, integration of rene
wable sources and use of GaN HEMT for power electronics. More about his re
