DESCRIPTION:With the ever-increasing concerns regarding the carbon footprin
t of the electricity grid\, local and federal policymakers incentivized th
e integration of renewable energy resources\, which led to their tremendou
s expansion during recent years. Solar rooftops are one of heavily incenti
vized distributed renewable energy resources\, which are the option to con
sider for many electricity customers. In this talk\, we will review the ec
onomics of installing solar rooftops given the local electricity rates and
continuously declining installment cost. A discussion will be provided to
make the best decision regarding the installment of solar rooftops. In ad
dition\, the importance of considering a more holistic approach toward the
problem\, including energy storage devices\, electric vehicles\, and ener
gy efficiency procedures will be revealed. The economics of the net meteri
ng (NEM) programs for customers and utilities will be investigated along w
ith some suggestion to design a more efficient paradigm for grid integrati
on of distributed energy resources. Finally\, we will further examine the
impact of those solar rooftops on the operation and planning characteristi
cs of the electricity distribution network.\n\nCo-sponsored by: PES\, IAS\
