DESCRIPTION:EMPNEO 3.0\, the third edition of the annual science camp organ
ised by IEEE MEC SB for school students across Kerala\, was held at MEC on
13 and 14 July\, 2019\, and was a grand success. The event witnessed talk
s\, workshops and an industrial visit\, all wrapped in a layer of fun and
excitement. EMPNEO 3.0 saw incredible participation\, with over a hundred
students participating from schools across the state. The theme of EMPNEO
3.O was “Spark”\, and every niche and corner of the event was planned
accordingly.\n\nFollowing the inauguration\, the students were entertained
to a deeply amusing interactive session by Sahil Sameer\, a former studen
t of MEC\, and ex-HSR of Kochi Hub. Afterwards they were entertained to ta
lks by Vishwanath R IPS and Dr. Premlet B\, and were also taken on an Indu
strial visit to KSUM from 2 pm to 4 pm on 13th July. The industrial visit
was very well loved and widely applauded by the students\, and successfull
y provided an insight to the art of setting up a start-up and the importan
ce of start ups. They were encouraged to give their “craziest ideas” a
nd to think out of the box\, and were also shown around the establishment.
They were shown the machines and drones there\, and also projects like el
ectric cycles with speeds upto 50 kmph and 100 kmph.\n\nThe second day of
Empneo 3.0 started off with an interactive session by Yan Chummar \; a you
ng achiever who has made it big by being an entrepreneur and app developer
at the age of just 16! It was one of the most awe-inspiring sessions for
the delegates as they could look up to someone who was merely their age. F
ollowing that was an ice -breaking session by Akash Nambiar\, the former H
SR of IEEE Kochi Hub. He was successful enough in engaging the kids and bo
osting their confidence level with interactive sessions and a set of games
.\n\nIt was on the second day that workshops were planned. The workshops in
cluded a Burglar Alarm workshop for students of classes 9 and 10 and a wor
kshop on Rainwater detection for students of classes 11 and 12. The worksh
ops were conducted by John T Biju and Menny Thankachan\, third year ECE st
udents of Govt Model Engineering college\, and taught the students the bas
 ics of p-n junction\, diodes\, resistors\, and soldering.\n\nSpeaker(s): V
