DESCRIPTION:* * * IEEE Call for Volunteers for the Southern Colorado FIRST
LEGO League (SCFLL) * * * The Southern Colorado FIRST LEGO League (SCFLL)
is looking for volunteers to assist in judging the regional competition on
Saturday November 9 at the Air Academy High School on the beautiful US Ai
r Force Academy Grounds. We need over 100 volunteers to staff this event.
We take care of the training\, food and T-shirt. You provide the enthusias
m and encouragement. You should expect to arrive at Air Academy High Schoo
l around 7:30AM for registration and training and stay through the wrap-up
which is usually around 5:00PM. You can expect to see Hyped-up 9-14 year-
olds\, props\, costumes\, team cheers\, 1000+ screaming fans and robots! T
hese teams of kids are working to build robots to solve mission problems.
This years theme is "Natures Fury" and the teams have to learn about natur
al disasters\, identify a problem and propose a solution. They build and p
rogram robots to accomplish a set of missions where they score points for
each mission goal the robot completes. They present the results of their r
esearch and their work to reach out and educate their community. I would e
xpect that most IEEE volunteers would be assigned to judge the teams\, ask
ing questions about the robot designs\, how they solved design problems\,
how they worked together as a team and to explain their research project.
The mission of FLL is to inspire young people to be science and technology
leaders\, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build s
cience\, engineering and technology skills\, that inspire innovation\, and
that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence\, co
mmunication\, and leadership. If you can offer us one day then simply plea
se email the volunteer coordinator "Kevin Bush" (kevin@scfll.org). Besides
the “fun factor”\, you will be helping to support our future
scientists and engineers. These are the people who will be responsible for
our safety and comfort in the future. Let's make sure they are well-equip
ped to face the challenge. Event details Location : Air Academy High Schoo
