DESCRIPTION:Forest fires are a reality that every year plagues Portugal. Ov
er the past 10 years\, more than 1\,000\,000 hectares have burned and the
predictions are that climate change will increasingly potentiate extreme e
vents that lead to disastrous years becoming more frequent.\n\nAn analysis
of the Forest fire combat system in Portugal reveals a dependence on stil
l very rudimentary means for the planning of the firefighting considering
the technological evolutions of the present and policies of firefighting c
emented mainly in the acquisition of more resources.\n\nGiven the growing
need to integrate technological means into the fire-fighting\, a decision
support system was developed for forest fire-fighting based on low-cost te
chnologies and to make available to commanders in the theater of operation
s more data to enable faster and more informed decisions.\n\nSpeaker(s): M
