DESCRIPTION:The IEEE EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society) Cha
pters of the Baltimore Section\, Washington\, and Northern Virginia cordia
lly invite you to attend our virtual meeting and seminar presentation. Thi
s event is also sponsored by the [IE](https://www.embs.org/sc/)[EE EMB](ht
 tps://www.embs.org/sc/)[Standards Committee](https://www.embs.org/sc/) and
  the [IEEE Standards Association](https://standards.ieee.org).\n\nConventi
onal blood pressure (BP) monitors require the use of a cuff. Advanced sens
ors and emerging technology in wearables have also led to the development
of BP monitoring devices that do not use a cuff. Some devices have already
received US FDA market clearance\, more recently in the form of a smartwa
tch. IEEE has published the first standard on Wearable\, Cuffless Blood Pr
essure Monitoring Devices in 2014 ([IE](https://standards.ieee.org/standar
 d/1708-2014.html)[EE 1](https://standards.ieee.org/standard/1708-2014.html
 )[708-2014](https://standards.ieee.org/standard/1708-2014.html))\, and Ame
ndment 1 was published late last year ([IEEE 1708a-2019](https://standards
.ieee.org/standard/1708a-2019.html)).\n\nWe are excited to present Dr. Jin
-Oh Hahn\, an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineer
ing\, a Faculty Affiliate in the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedic
al Devices\, and a Faculty Affiliate in the Applied Mathematics\, Statisti
cs\, and Scientific Computation (AMSC) Program at the University of Maryla
nd. Dr. Hahn will give a talk about recent developments in cuff-based and
cuff-less blood pressure monitoring techniques\, with particular emphasis
given to oscillometry and cuff-less approach based on the pulse transit ti
me principle.\n\n***There is no Registration Fee. Guests are welcome. Stud
ents are welcome. However\, we require everyone to register. Those who reg
ister will receive web-conferencing information a day or two before the ev
