DESCRIPTION:The Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at Austin Community C
ollege gives students a path to success at a quality engineering school wh
ile starting close to home. The Engineering Academy program is the first e
ngineering transition program of its kind in the United States. Engineerin
g academies students are co-enrolled with Texas A&M and partner community
colleges across the state. After one to two years\, students transition to
Texas A&M to complete their bachelor's degree in any of the 22 majors off
ered in the College of Engineering.\n\nThe Texas Workforce Commission proj
ects the need for engineers in the central Texas region to grow by 25% in
the next decade. The rising costs of education and limited family resource
s cause a need for many students to start at a community college before mo
ving to a university. However\, access to a premier university and getting
accepted into an engineering school is a daunting task.\n\nThe Engineerin
g Academy model addresses these affordability\, access\, and inclusion pro
blems head-on and provides qualified students with an organized and afford
able pathway to success as an engineering student. This talk will give an
overview of the program and the success that has been achieved in the firs
t few years of this new and innovative program.\n\nCo-sponsored by: IEEE C
entral Texas Consultants Network \n\nSpeaker(s): Shana Shaw \, \n\nAgenda:
\n5:45 to 5:49 PM - open for participants to enter and network\, suggest
next topic and speakers.\n6:00 to 6:10 PM - IEEE LM and CTCN Business meet
ing and to introduce speaker.\n6:10 to 7:30 PM - Formal Program and Q&A.\n
